FUST Lab.’s focused ultrasonic platform, DEBREX®, was utilized in a micro- and nanoplastic toxicology study recently published in Particle and Fibre Toxicology.

Microplastics are no longer only an environmental concern. They are also becoming an important topic in human health and toxicology research. As scientific interest continues to grow, there is an increasing need for technologies that can generate reproducible microplastic particles reflecting the characteristics of particles formed in real environmental conditions.

In this study, instead of relying solely on commercially available spherical polyethylene beads, the researchers used DEBREX® to generate irregular polyethylene micro- and nanoplastic fragments that more closely resemble particles formed through environmental weathering.

The generated fragments were subsequently used in a 13-week inhalation toxicity study in rats, contributing valuable reference data for future toxicological and environmental health research on micro- and nanoplastics.

This publication demonstrates that DEBREX® can serve not only as an ultrasonic processing system, but also as a research tool for creating more realistic and standardized experimental models.

FUST Lab. will continue to expand its focused ultrasonic technology platform to support more reliable research and broader industrial applications.
